Make sure you are vote ready. Check your voter registration status at least four (4) times a year; make sure that it reads "Active". When your voter registration status is Active, that means that you are "vote ready" for any Virginia election.
If you have a DMV issued ID (Driver's License or State ID), you can register to vote online. You must be a US citizen, Virginia resident, 18 years old by election day and not currently convicted of a felony.
In Virginia you are eligible to have your voting rights restored upon release from prison. The Secretary of the Commonwealth maintains a list of people who have had their rights restored; if you are not already on that list, you can request restoration from the same page.
Restoration of RightsOver the weekend of Juneteenth, Roanoke Democracy Center partnered with Roanoke Cultural Collective, CommUNITY ARTS-reach, to hold an event in their neighborhood to celebrate Black independence from enslavement. Alongside them were many of the voices of that community sharing their jubilation.
The Roanoke Democracy Center often holds events in the neighborhood weekly/bi-weekly to engage with the voices of that community and educate those about voter registration and upcoming elections.

The Roanoke Democracy Center held a John Lewis Voting Rights Vigil on July 17th. Speakers from Roanoke Branch NAACP and Represent.us joined the team to support voting rights and voting rights legislation (For the People Act, DC Statehood and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act).
